Relationships…we all have them. No one is alone without interaction with other people. Have you ever heard someone say, “I can do this on my own, I do not need anyone.” No one is an island. We encounter people every day, at work, at home, at the grocery store. We talk to people or interact with people in many different ways and in many different settings.
Some people have a more difficult time than others forming healthy relationships. Some of us feel misunderstood and in turn, do not understand others. Over the next few weeks, we will work together to develop better relationships with people we encounter. For this process to work, we need to consider these guidelines:
Be willing to change and try to make your relationships work. Do not sabotage them.
- Keep an open mind about the suggestions.
- Work on your relationships daily.
- Be honest with yourself.
Are you committed? Are you willing to follow these steps in the coming weeks? It may seem simple and it will require effort, but it will work.
Let’s get started!
What does the word “relationship” mean to you? Do you think of your spouse or significant other, family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances? We are in a relationship with all of these people and more! Think about the person in the checkout line, the person working at the store, the postman, a person we have to talk to on the phone for business, etc. Relationships are all around us.
I encourage you not to allow past experiences and negative self-talk to hinder you from developing relationships. Over the next few days, start putting your name in the blanks of the following statements:
“Well, _____likes people. _____ can make anyone seem like he or she is a best friend, even someone he/she has never met before. More important, _______ connects with the people closest to him/her. He/She truly cares about the people on his/her team. It doesn’t matter if a person is a leader/manager or a member of the team, as far as ______ is concerned, they are all the same and all are important.”
After practicing this for a few days, let us know how it has helped you connect with those around you. Comment here or tag us on social media @LCSResults or Facebook.
